BACKGROUND: While dealing with the aftermath of the historic winter weather event in February of this year, Chapter 8 of Lawton City Code 2015 was identified by key leaders in the city as being woefully out of date. This revision of the code is needed in order to align the city code with the Emergency Management Act of 2003 and to ensure city officials/employees are operating the same terminology that their state and federal level counterparts are operating under. This revision also deletes antiquated terminology like "civil defense forces" and "civil defense activities" and replaces those words with terms used in the state statute.
