INITIATOR:  Mayor Stanley Booker

STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE:  Deputy City Manager Richard Rogalski

BACKGROUND:  Our local developers have voiced their concerns regarding the increased cost to develop quality housing within the City of Lawton, versus surrounding communities and other unincorporated areas of Comanche County.  While the services available within the City of Lawton are better and insurance rates are lower, many buyers look only at the listing price and not the long-term cost of ownership and maintained value. As the community is doing such a great job promoting and investing in industrial development, it is likewise important that we look at possible ways to promote and invest in residential development in the Lawton Community and the Lawton Public School District, to support and prepare our work force.

EXHIBIT:  N/A

KEY ISSUES:  Is there a better opportunity to promote residential development within our community?

FUNDING SOURCE:  HM Economic Development Fund

STAFF RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:  Authorize the Mayor and City Manager to work with the Superintendent of Lawton Public Schools and the Center for Economic Development Law to research ways to promote residential development within the City of Lawton.
