BACKGROUND: The City Attorney's Office wishes to renew the Agreement with McAfee & Taft to perform certain pension and employment / labor related services, pension law, provisions for environmental / water law representation, and allow for representation of the City in other areas as requested by the City. The Agreement includes compensation for the work of firm shareholders (partners) (primarily John Papahronis) at the rate of Three Hundred Ninety-Five and NO/100 Dollars ($395.00) per hour for work in the area of pension law; compensation for the work of firm shareholders (primarily Tony Puckett) at the rate of Two Hundred Seventy-Five and NO/100 Dollars ($275.00) per hour for work in the areas of employment / labor law; compensation of firm shareholders (primarily Derek Hardberger) at the rate of Four Hundred Fifty and No/100 Dollars (450.00) per hour for work in the areas of environmental or water law; and compensation for firm shareholders in other areas at a rate of Two Hundred Seventy-Five and NO/100 Dollars ($275.00) per hour; for associates at the rate of Two Hundred Forty-Five and NO/100 Dollars ($245.00) per hour. Paralegals will be compensated at a rate of One Hundred Ten and NO/100 Dollars ($110.00) per hour. The current agreement expires on June 30, 2020. The proposed rates represent a slight increase from the firm's last rate increase two years ago.
