STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE: Larry Parks, Parks and Recreation Director

BACKGROUND: The single greatest funder, outside the City of Lawton, which supported the original Playground of the Park construction, and the recent All-Inclusive expansion is the McMahon Foundation. Their substantial financial contributions made both projects possible.

The naming of the park areas exhibits goodwill by the City of Lawton in acknowledging the monumental support of the McMahon Foundation, and their support in increasing quality of life in Lawton, OK assisting in making the City of Lawton a destination of choice for families and tourists.

The McMahon Foundation is made up of a board of private citizens, who have been appointed to serve our community, and when we work together we make Lawton a better place to live for everyone, and approval of the naming of the park area as "McMahon Playground in the Park," acknowledges the contribution of our citizens, and makes it transparent to the public what can be accomplished when we do things together.

Using funds on hand, Children's United and LETA, who are leading the All-Inclusive expansion project would install a bronze plaque at the entrance of the playground areas.

KEY ISSUES: One of the requirements of receipt of funding from the McMahon Foundation is some form of acknowledgement and recognition of contributions. The naming of the park is a deserved, efficient acknowledgment of McMahon Foundation's contribution to both the original park project and the All-Inclusive Expansion.
