BACKGROUND: On March 6, 2023, a Lawton Police Officer was driving southbound on SW 14th Street approaching I Avenue, when a vehicle pulled away from the curb line of I Avenue and proceeded eastbound. The officer looked to her right and did not see any traffic approaching and then looked to the left and confirmed the traffic to her left was clear. She then proceeded through the intersection and collided with the vehicle that pulled away from the curb when she was looking to her left. The police unit is a total loss and an insurance claim was filed with Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group. OMAG has offered to settle the claim in the amount of $10,870.00, with the City of Lawton retaining ownership of unit 6648 a 2015 Ford, Taurus Interceptor, which will be used for parts. The actual cash value of the vehicle is $12,870.00, the City of Lawton has a $1,000.00 deductible, and the salvage deduction to keep the vehicle is $1,000.00. OMAG will submit payment in the amount of $10,870.00 upon receipt of the Sworn Statement in Proof of Loss member’s release.
