BACKGROUND: Each year, the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) selects priority issues that impact the future well-being of Oklahoma’s cities and towns. These issues are ratified by OML members at the OML Conference. OML then collaborates with legislators to submit these ideas as legislation and works to guide them through the legislative process. Staff has identified a legislative request concerning Title 51 Oklahoma State Statute 24A.33 that they would like OML to consider. This request will address concerns in the Oklahoma Open Records Act in order strengthen the transparency required by the Act, clearly define exemptions to the Act, and provide municipalities with clearer guidelines for adhering to the Act. If approved, the proposed resolution will provide OML with the necessary proof of support to consider this legislative request.
