BACKGROUND: The City of Lawton currently owns the SE 1/4 of Section 30, Township 1 North, Range 11 West. This property is located on the east side of S Railroad and the north side of SW Tinney Road. The use of the land is going to be for the landfill gas project that the Public Works Department is working on.

Oklahoma State Statutes, Chapter 11, Section 21-103 states that the governing body shall direct that notice of the proposed annexation of the territory be published in a legally qualified newspaper of general circulation in the territory. A copy of the notice of annexation shall also be mailed to all owners of property abutting any public right-of-way that forms the boundary of the territory proposed to be annexed.

If the rezoning is approved, a temporary zoning will be placed on the property at the time of annexation and then staff will do a rezoning and amendment to the land use plan to put a permanent zoning classification on the property.

The public hearing for the annexation will be held on February 27, 2024. The publication date of the notice will be February 1, 2024.
