INITIATOR: Christine James, Planning Director
STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE: Michael Watrous, Public Works Director
BACKGROUND: During the 2018 rezoning application for the Braum’s location at 151 NW Sheridan Road, a speed table was required in the alleyway in addition to paving a portion of the alleyway. Upon review of that application, the Planning Department requested a change to instead install a controlled access gate and no outlet sign on the east end of the alleyway intersecting with NW Morford Drive. In addition, citizens have separately requested additional traffic control measures, such as “no truck” signs, on NW Lake and NW Arlington.
EXHIBIT: Location Map
KEY ISSUES: This reduces the potential traffic on a residential alleyway, reduces the upkeep and maintenance of the alley, reduces the inconvenience and noise for nearby residents, and significantly reduces the cost to the city on the installation of speed tables and paving. Braum’s has agreed to the requested change. The controlled access gate will be paid for and installed by the Braum’s corporation and/or their contractors. City signs in the alleyway will be paid for by the city and reimbursed by the Braum’s corporation once final costs are determined. Any other traffic control measures will be paid for from the City of Lawton’s Street Division account.
FUNDING SOURCE: 1005502 51020 Streets Division, Repair and Maintenance. Current balance 4,107,432.66. Estimated final costs to this account: $300.
STAFF RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: Adopt a resolution authorizing traffic control measures as deemed necessary by the Public Works Director within 1000 feet of 151 NW Sheridan Road necessary for the safety and wellbeing of affected citizens.
