BACKGROUND: On June 25, 2024, staff presented a sign program aimed at keeping the street intersections safe from pedestrians by discouraging panhandling and encouraging donations to established charitable organizations to the City Council. Council directed staff to proceed with the production and installation of eight signs at three known panhandling sites (Ft Sill Boulevard and NW Cache Road, NW Sheridan Road and NW Cache Road, and Gore Boulevard and Sheridan Road) and to gather input from the Homeless Action Committee regarding possible locations for future signage installation. On June 27, 2024, the Homeless Action Committee recommended additional panhandling signs be placed at the intersection of SW 11th Street and SW Lee Boulevard and the intersection of SW 38th Street and Lee Boulevard.
