BACKGROUND: on September 18th, a request was made to the City Streets Division to designate SW Sedalia Ave as an honorary street for Raymond L. Gates’ service as an outstanding citizen with citywide impact as Lawton’s first black firefighter.

KEY ISSUES:  A ceremony is proposed at a later date, on site, once the signs are created and in place but covered, revealing the street as an honorary street

 

FUNDING SOURCE:  1005502 51020 (Streets Repair and Maintenance Account), Estimated Cost: $200, Current balance (as of 21 October 2024): $4,296,777.80

 

STAFF RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:  Approve the resolution to designate SW Sedalia Avenue between SW Salinas Drive and SW Chisholm Trail Blvd as an honorary street in name of Raymond L. Gates.
