INITIATOR: Mayor Stan Booker
INFORMATION SOURCE: Mayor Stan Booker
BACKGROUND: During the Mayor’s New Year Address on January 13, 2025 and the January 14, 2025 Council meeting, Mayor Booker introduced the Kids First Initiative, emphasizing the City's commitment to creating a safe, clean, and supportive environment for children. This initiative is built on three main pillars: Clean Up and Beautification, Dilapidated Properties, and a Homeless Action Plan.
This agenda item presents the Kids First: Homeless Action Strategic Plan, which outlines a targeted approach to addressing homelessness in Lawton. The plan ensures that federal funding is allocated to transitional homeless programs, helping individuals and families on the path to stability. At the same time, it establishes firm guidelines for chronic homelessness to minimize its negative effects on neighborhoods and children. Through this plan, the City seeks to balance compassion with accountability, reinforcing the principles of the True North Culture Statement while protecting the community.
