STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE: Charlotte Brown, Community Services Director
BACKGROUND: Staff has been researching a way to make permits easier for those properties that have been declared dilapidated. It has been determined that if the City issues two 90-day permits instead of six 30-day permits, this will allow the permittee to work for a longer period of time. The overall time frame of the permits will not change. The citizen and/or contractor will still have 180 days to work on the property prior to staff having to bring it back to City Council for additional time. In between the two remodel permits, an inspector from the Building Division will go out and review the work that has been done. If a significant amount of work has been completed, the second permit will be issued, and the citizen and/or contractor will be able to continue work. If it is determined that not a significant amount of work has been completed, the property will be turned back over to the Neighborhood Services Division to go out for bid for demolition.
