BACKGROUND: Currently, the set location for the upgraded Animal Welfare facility is at the City of Lawton yard located at 2100 SW 6th.  There are concerns on cost to bring the current building up to standards and increase the work area necessary while remaining within the budget allotted by the COL.  Staff is proposing that the future site of the facility be relocated to the Lawton Fire Station located at 1701 SW Lee Blvd.  This site is currently owned by the COL and is structurally sound.  Our engineering and design teams have already researched the site and feel that it will better accommodate the needs of the facility as well as provide space for future growth.  Allowing the Animal Welfare Division to utilize this site for future development will also ensure that the animals in our care will not be displaced during the during the restructure and remodel of the facility.
