INITIATOR: Dewayne Burk, Deputy City Manager
STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE: Dewayne Burk, Deputy City Manager
BACKGROUND: The purpose of the proposed Memorandum of Understanding is to bring the current collective bargaining agreement into compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act as it pertains to the payment of overtime to bargaining unit members of the Lawton Fire Department. The memorandum changes the existing work period from a 27-day work period to a 28-day work period thereby allowing the city to continue to pay fire department bargaining unit members on a bi-weekly basis. In addition, the memorandum addresses the use of city funded health insurance premiums by allowing bargaining unit members to utilize said unused funding toward qualifying pre-tax ancillary coverages offered via the Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma’s insurance plan.
