body
INITIATOR: Christine James, Planning Director
STAFF INFORMATION SOURCE: Ryan Landers, LATS General Manager
BACKGROUND: In the summer of 2016, LATS approached Lawton Public School (LPS) with the idea of providing public transportation service to LPS students. After some discussion and research of other cities around the region, LATS finalized an agreement for a pilot program that would allow all students grades 6 through 12 to ride the transit system at no cost with their LPS photo ID. After finding the pilot program to be a great success, LPS agreed to enter into an annual agreement that included staff members. For the 2021-2022 term, the agreement was amended to allow K-5th grade students to also ride at no cost with their LPS photo ID. Any student under the age of 6 is required to be accompanied by a paying adult. LPS desires to continue this arrangement for another year at the annual rate of $70,000.00 paid to LATS for providing this service. Only minor revisions were made to the agreement this year to clarify some language. The term of this agreement is July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 with an automatic renewal if no new agreement is in place by June 30th of each year.
