INITIATOR: Councilmember Allan Hampton, Ward 5
INFORMATION SOURCE: Barbara McNally, Airport Director
BACKGROUND: The Lawton City Council is being asked to approve a $270,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to help fund a study that will improve the layout and condition of key areas at the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport. The total cost for this project is $300,000, with the FAA providing the majority of the funding. The remaining $30,000 will need to be budgeted from local funds.
This project will focus on making necessary changes to Taxiway F, which connects the terminal to the runway. Currently, the layout of this taxiway doesn’t meet FAA standards, and the area where planes park is overcrowded and showing signs of wear and tear. The study, called a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER), will help identify the best way to fix these issues and bring everything up to FAA standards. It will also explore options for expanding or repairing the terminal apron to better handle military aircraft and other large planes.
The PER will include survey and geotechnical data to provide a preliminary design and analysis for bringing non-standard conditions into compliance with current FAA standards.
