BACKGROUND: Gondola dam is owned by the City of Lawton and is approximately 100 years old. Located downstream of Lake Lawtonka, there is no as-built information, maintenance records, or previous inspection records for this dam. The dam is used to create a small tilling pool just downstream of Lake Lawtonka. The dam overflow spillway has been damaged and requires rehabilitation. The scope includes work to develop a high-level condition summary of the dam, feasibility assessment for rehabilitation or replacing the existing dam at the same location, concept development for the recommended alternative and a cost estimate. The intent of this dam evaluation is to assist the City of Lawton in making an informed decision to either retrofit the existing dam or replace it. The scope also includes assisting the City of Lawton with two American Rescue Plan (ARPA) State Designated grants awarded to this project. Detailed Design, analysis, and criteria development will be completed at a later phase of the project. Total Project Cost is estimated at $2.5 m - $2.8 million.
On June 27, 2023, City Council approve the Master Service Agreement (MSA) with Jacobs Engineering Group, INC. on February 13, 2024, Council approved MSA Amendment No. 5 which includes the design for the rehabilitation of the Gondola Lake Dam in the amount of $150,000.00.
If awarded, the $2 million State Designated ARPA grant will be used to fund construction of this project, which is currently estimated at $2.2 million.
