BACKGROUND: The small cell wireless facility at this location was permitted on June 27, 2023, by City Council. US Cellular is the applicant for this permit. Staff has received several complaints from the property owner of 6432 NW Arrowhead Drive. The property owner is requesting that the pole be relocated to a park that is approximately 2 blocks away from her property.
Staff has reached out to US Cellular to ask them to look into this. Their response is: “Each location in Lawton was carefully selected based on the need to offload our existing network. Moving this site to either Great Plains Park or Crosby Park would not be an option as the parks are not near the concentration of users that we are targeting at this location. A move would not allow us to effectively offload the traffic from the existing cell sites in our network. Additionally, each location was selected based on the parameters of Article 20-5 Small cell Wireless Facility Permit.”
This facility is approximately 1 foot west and 1 foot 5 inches north of what was approved on the plans. These dimension differences are minor in staff’s opinion.
