BACKGROUND: In 2020, the City Council altered the time of its regular meetings from 6:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. This change was implemented to better accommodate the schedules of council members and city staff, as well as to streamline municipal operations. The convenience of the public was also considered at the time, to include noting that the safety of citizens getting out late was discussed as well as the fact that the meetings are now streamed live. However, since this adjustment, there has been ongoing feedback from the community regarding the accessibility and convenience of the meeting times.
Given these considerations, the City Council is revisiting the issue to discuss the potential benefits and drawbacks of reverting the meeting time back to 6:00 PM. The proposed change aims to enhance public attendance and participation by scheduling meetings at a time potentially more convenient for residents. This discussion will evaluate whether the evening schedule better serves the needs of the community while still accommodating the operational requirements of the City Council and its staff.
