BACKGROUND: On April 22, 2024, Mayor Stan Booker unveiled the visionary initiative, “PROPEL 2040- Building the Future” and addressed the “Why” of the PROPEL 2040 CIP. Topics of discussion included Goodyear Blvd, Arts for All Summer Camp, the Elmer Thomas Park Amphitheatre, the Elmer Thomas Park Aquatics Facility, McMahon Memorial Auditorium, the Sports Complex, Dilapidated Properties, Lawton Area Transit System, sidewalks, deferred street maintenance, beautification projects, Gore Blvd road construction, Museum of the Great Plains, the Armory, Carnegie Library, Lawton Animal Welfare, Central Fire Station, a STEM lab, a Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Victim Resource Center, traffic control automation, crime fighting technology, a redevelopment revolving fund, the municipal golf course, the Lawton Fort Sill Regional Airport, and industrial development. Two public input sessions took place on May 16th and May 20th to provide the public an opportunity to take part in solutions that can be found in the possible extension of the PROPEL CIP and help build the future of Lawton through 2040. At this time, Council will continue discussing projects to include in the proposed CIP and funding that is needed to complete these projects.
