BACKGROUND: MIGHT CDRC (Community Development and Resource Center) serves as a key support organization in the Lawton/Ft. Sill area, offering a range of programs and services aimed at empowering individuals and families. Their focus on providing culturally sensitive support spans across various domains including education, social services, economic empowerment, and mental/physical health. Among their initiatives are two prominent programs: STEM Camp and Teen Achievers Career Readiness. STEM Camp aims to integrate technology, engineering, and mathematics into science education while prioritizing cultural inclusivity and community-specific needs. Meanwhile, Teen Achievers Career Readiness introduces adolescents to career readiness concepts through a combination of virtual courses, practical activities, and field trips. To sustain and expand these programs, MIGHT CDRC is seeking support from the City of Lawton through a $75,000.00 support agreement. These funds will be utilized for essential aspects of the 2024 summer programs, including procurement of virtual courses, supplies, advertising, student registration, T-shirts, and field trip expenses. The Youth and Family Affairs Committee, which was formed with the goal of identifying opportunities for the community's at-risk youth to develop life and career enhancing skills and help them to avoid involvement in the criminal justice system, has reviewed an extensive grant application and recommends approval at this time.
