Consider approving a resolution authorizing and calling for an election in the City of Lawton, State of Oklahoma, for the purpose of setting the dates for the 2024 primary and general municipal elections for the Mayor and designated City Council seats and authorizing the Mayor to issue an election proclamation.

BACKGROUND: Enclosed for Council’s consideration is a resolution calling for a primary municipal election to be held on August 27, 2024, and if necessary, a general municipal election to be held on November 5, 2024. The resolution calls for an election to fill the offices of Councilmembers for Wards 1, 2, and Mayor for a three (3) year term. The resolution establishes the filing period for these offices will be June 17, 18, and 19, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The full text of the resolution and election proclamation must be published one (1) time in a newspaper of general circulation within the City at least ten (10) days before the beginning of the filing period.
