BACKGROUND: Copper theft has become a concern in the City of Lawton with noticeable incidents throughout the year 2023. This criminal activity involves the unauthorized removal of copper materials from various locations. There were 89 total thefts of copper reports filed in 2023, CID has filed charges for 15 of these cases. The other cases either had no further investigative avenues or there was no suspect information. This report will serve as a foundation to collaborate in finding effective solutions that will contribute to a safer and more secure community.
